2016 Dublin Literary Award Shortlist

Image result for dublin literary award 2016Last November the longlist for the Dublin Literary Award was announced; it featured 160 titles.  At €100,000, this is the world’s most valuable annual literary prize.  I discussed this list earlier:

Today that list was whittled down to a 10-book shortlist:

Outlaws by Javier Cercas (Spain)
Academy Street by Mary Costello (Ireland)
Your Fathers, Where Are They? And the Prophets, Do They Live Forever? by Dave Eggers (U.S.)
The End of Days by Jenny Erpenbeck (Germany)
A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James
Diary of the Fall by Michel Laub (Brazil)
Our Lady of the Nile by Scholastique Mukasonga (Rwanda)
Dept of Speculation by Jenny Offill (U.S.)
Lila by Marilynne Robinson (U.S.)
Family Life by Akhil Sharma (U.S.)

The Award, presented annually for a novel written in English or translated into English, aims to promote excellence in world literature.  Nominations are submitted by library systems in major cities throughout the world; to be eligible for the 2016 prize, books must be of high literary merit and must have been first published in English or in English translation in 2014.  

The winner will be announced on June 9.
