Canadian Book Advent Calendar (Day 12) - "L" is for Lansens, Laurence, and Lawson

For this year’s advent calendar, I am recommending Canadian authors/books found on Schatje’s Shelves.  Again, to make things more interesting/challenging, I will use the alphabet, skipping “X” and “Z”.  In total, I propose to focus on 50 Canadian writers, an early nod to Canada's 150th birthday next year.

“L” is for Lori Lansens
Lansens is a New York Times bestselling author.

Novels:
Rush Home Road (nominated for 2002 Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize)
The Girls
The Wife's Tale

************

“L” is for Margaret Laurence
Laurence is a major figure in Canadian literature, one of Canada's most esteemed and beloved authors by the end of her literary career.

Novels (which I recommend):

The Stone Angel
A Jest of God  (winner of 1966 Governor-General’s Award)
The Diviners (winner of 1974 Governor-General’s Award)

************

“L” is for Mary Lawson
Lawson’s novels are set in a part of northeastern Ontario which I called home for 35 years.

Novels:
 Crow Lake
The Other Side of the Bridge (longlisted for 2006 Man Booker Prize and shortlisted for Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Award)
